Flawed Francette Phal

Title: Flawed (The Butcher #1)
Author: Francette Phal
Rating: 5 WTF DID I JUST READ STARS!!
Synopsis: Lacey Barnes is a teenage prositute with aspirations of being a doctor. Her shitty family does nothing but take from her and use her, but like the true martyr she is she continuously goes above and beyond to save their asses at every opportunity. When her dumb-dumb brother gets himself in yet another heap of trouble it's once again up to Lacey to bail him out, but this time the cost may be more than she can afford to pay. Knox is an assassin, but he is not your typical sniper or even a money hungry mercenary, he is a blood thirsty killer to his very core. For Knox there is absolutely nothing more satisfying than causing pain and being the adopted son of Russian crime boss affords him every opportunity to bask in the glory of his particular skill set. When he is asked to ride along for a run of the mill shake down to collect an unpaid debt his disinterest is obvious and expected...but then he sees her, he knows without doubt he is going to hurt her, the only question is how much pain can she take?
Review: Holy crap this book kept me at the edge of my seat! This book was so dark that I kept wondering (not so quietly) to myself why the fuck I was enjoying it so much. I mean really I was so hooked from the very beginning that I could barely put this thing down to eat and bathe and generally live my life over the last two days...and yet it was not for any reason that I could fathom being comfortable with. I mean sure the writing was fantastic, the plot and characters well developed and the general tone and pace of the story kept me dying for more information, for the next revelation, the next big commotion, but that doesn't mean that I was at all comfortable with myself or my emotions during the whole insane thing.
Let me break this down for you, Knox is a bad guy, and Lacey is a stupid, stupid girl....and yet I loved them both so much. There were so many moments when I wanted to yell and scream at them both, so many moments when I was dying for someone to step in and rescue this poor stupid girl and end her torment...and yet by about 70% the bad guy starts to show humanity and the stupid girl starts to show a bit of a brain and I started to believe that it could actually work...and then I smacked myself in the face because WHY THE FUCK SHOULD IT WORK!! I mean seriously there are so many other ways this thing could go and so many times that I wanted a hint at a different outcome and yet when that fucking cliffhanger hit me at the end I was desperate for more!!!
Please excuse me while I delve head first into the autoerotic nightmare that is sure to be the second installment of this series.

Chasing Dragonflies Tee Smith

Title: Chasing Dragonflies
Author: Tee Smith
Rating: 5 Stars
Synopsis: After living in captivity for 6 years Maddie feels lucky to even still be alive. Having her life back with her brother and good friends by her side, she knows that even on the days that feel the hardest she will make it through, after all she has already survived the worst. When sexy mechanic Dex shows up on her door step Maddie starts feeling things she never even dreamed she would experience during her days in the shed. But Dex has a few demons in his own past and he is not so sure he's the right choice for such a beautiful, fragile and innocent girl to be betting her heart on.
Review: I loved this book. It was everything I loved about Collecting Scars and then some!
Maddie and Dex were the sweetest together but I loved that their stories were very independent of one another in their own ways.
Maddie had a lot of stuff to work out and to slowly let out as the book went on and I loved every little glimpse into her mind. She was strong and resilient in a way that no one could have expected her to be after the life she had lead.
And Dex he was the ultimate good guy trapped behind a bad boy image, and the most perfect thing about it was that he had created that image in his own mind out of guilt and sorrow... He just had the sweetest soul and it totally came through on every page, I fricking loved Dex!
I love the world of characters that Tee is building with her stories it's such a rich little world of family and friends that makes me want more. That cliffhanger at the end of this one!! Ugh absolutely killing me! I can't wait for more from this series.

All The Rage T.M. Frazier

Title: All the Rage

Author: T.M. Frazier

Rating: 5 Stars

Author's Blurb:
They call me Rage.
My real name is like a shadow, always close behind, but never quite able to catch up.
I fly under the radar because no one ever suspects I’m capable of the kind of brutal violence I commit each and every day.
You see, I’m a girl. I’m nineteen.
And I'm a killer.
This life is all I know. It’s all I want to know. It keeps the s**t buried that I need kept buried. It allows me to live without thinking too much.
Without dwelling on the past.
Until him.
It all changes when an ordinary boy becomes my next target.
And my first love.
I have to choose.
The only life I’ve ever known has to die, or he does.
Either way, I’ll be the one pulling the trigger...

Review:
Another 5 star read from T.M. Frazier!
As a huge fan of Mrs. Frazier's writing I anxiously anticipated the release of this book, I stalked her Facebook page for teasers and release dates and I downloaded this thing to my Kindle the second I woke up on release day...Totally worth it!!
T.M. talked about how this book was so different for her to write because it was more driven by the female character than the male lead and she wanted to get Rage absolutely right for her fans...She totally succeeded, Rage was awesome. She was smart and totally badass, she was surprisingly funny and she had a sense of naivety and innocence to her that should have made her "I'm a badass assassin with no emotions" thing seem fake or forced, but it didn't! Even with all her strange character flaws and unrealistic abilities, she somehow seemed totally genuine and I loved her, I rooted for her. I wanted to slap her a couple times but Nolan totally took care of that for me....
Speaking of Nolan...Can I please keep him??? Seriously T.M. knows how to write a sexy alpha male and Nolan might have just topped the Frazier Cake!! That's right, sorry Jake, too bad King, move over Bear, scoot down a little Preppy (just a little) because Nolan Fucking Archer just kept me up all night and I couldn't be happier about it!
Other than the stellar sexy characters and surprisingly amusing tone this book also had a really decent plot, I found myself enraptured in the story and needing to know what happened next. I read the damn thing in one sitting and I'll probably have a book hang over for weeks...TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Hillary 3 Angel Gelique

Title: Hillary Retribution (Hillary book 3)

Author: Angel Gelique

Rating: 5 STARS!!!

Author's blurb: After sustaining years of sexual abuse by the father she had once loved and trusted, Hillary Greyson finally confides in her mother, only to be called a liar. Just when all seems hopeless and Hillary has no one to turn to, she discovers an ally, a voice within her that promises to make everything all better. Relying on her one and only friend--the voice of reason, Hillary puts an end to the sexual abuse and those she deemed blameworthy for her suffering. Fueled by rage, Hillary lashes out against everyone who hurt her until she is apprehended in the woods. For months, Hillary is left alone in an empty room, tied naked to a bed in the home of a man claiming to be her doctor...a man who says that she is there for her own good. Hillary finds a way to escape and discovers that she has been delivered to the doctor by a military man, Lieutenant Alan Langford, for the sole purpose of being used as a test subject in an unauthorized and unethical biomedical research experiment. Hillary knows there's just one thing left to do. With the voice of reason now silent, she has found her own voice, along with the strength and resolve to find this man-this military lieutenant who prolonged her suffering-and make him pay. Hillary just wants revenge....

Synopsis: Hillary is on a mission. To hunt, torture, kill, and quite possibly CONSUME, Lt. Alan Langford. He's the man responsible for her unethical imprisonment and experimentation by Doctors Patrick Morrison and Jake Bentley. There's only one problem, the voice in her head, the one that saved her from her father and guided her to her freedom, has suddenly gone silent, leaving Hillary more alone than she has been in quite a while. Meanwhile Dr. Bently won't rest until he finds the girl responsible for his mutilation and torture...of course it would help if he had any clue where to start looking for her.

Review: Hillary lost her ever loving mind! We know this. In fact if you made it through the second book good for you because man that thing was difficult to read...totally worth it...but the blood in gore in that book makes the first and third books look like fricking children's stories in comparison ....again though it was totally worth it and in my opinion completely essential to the story...and because I am a sick and twisted individual it may actually be my favorite book in this amazing trilogy and that is really saying something....any ways enough about the second book cause this review is all about the third and final chapter in Hillary's gruesome tale.

After escaping Dr. Morrison and finishing off her mother Hillary heads north to find Lt. Langford the man responsible for her capture. Along the way she finds an unlikely allie in an old sweet hearted black woman named Miss Billie. Miss Billie knows a thing or two about helping troubled youth, and she believes that saving the young girl is what the almighty lord wants her to do..of course she has no clue what kind of evil is really lurking behind the teenagers pretty face. Needless to say the 2 make a rather interesting pair and I have to say I was enamored with Miss Billie from the very first time we meet her.

I love how Angel's third person narration let you see inside the minds of her characters. I was caught up in the emotions of each and every storyline equally. Every gory, bloody, detail (and believe me there are plenty) paints a relentlessly vivid picture of these tortured souls. And the seamless timeline transitions keep the mystery and suspense of this story alive and well until the very end.

The final installment didn't disappoint in the twist department either. In fact just when I thought I had it all figured out and I knew exactly what Hillary's story was supposed to be about.....Angel flipped shit on its head and left me with my mouth open asking WTF for like 2 whole chapters.

In conclusion, the tale of Hillary Greyson was one of the most violent, and horrific I have ever suffered through, and at the same time one of the most intriguing and captivating I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying....basically the whole trilogy blew my mind and left me in awe of the author's talent...but I'm still going to curse her to hell when I wake up from my next nightmare.

****SPOILER WARNING!!**** (seriously don't read this review at all if you can't handle spoilers because I could not help myself)

Review:
ORIGINAL REVIEW October 18 2015: I didn't finish this book...but I am going to give it 4 stars anyways because I know the story would have been brilliant I just couldn't stomach it anymore. The first novel in this series was a total mind fuck and because I was so enraptured in the mystery of it I managed to gag my way through all the disgusting blood and gore...but this one I just can't. The 6 chapters I managed to get through were details of Hillary's backstory and I was able to stay with her through the terrible torturous acts of her father and I was able to stay with her through the despicably weak actions of her mother, I about lost it when she attacked the dog...not cool... but I celebrated when she took down that rat bastard ass dad of hers...it was when she tied up her fucking sister that I had to stop....I understand that Hillary lost her damn mind and that is the point of the whole fucking story and the brilliant writing did manage to make it fascinating in a way...but horror has never been my genre of choice... I prefer a good psychological suspense with a mostly happy end...and that's not where this story was headed not in the slightest...my heart (and stomach) can't take it I had to say goodbye to Hillary before Caliegh could meet her untimely end.

Update 5/10/16: Have you ever put down a book without finishing only to have it haunt you for months at every opportunity...me neither, until now that is. I can't stop think about this book. At first I thought it was because it scared the ever loving shit out of me (which it totally did) but honestly I think it's because some sick twisted part of me just has to know what happens...Damn you Angel Gelique for being such an amazing writer...if I throw up trying to endure this thing just know it's all your fault.....and thus I pick back up with Hillary where I left off...with her fucking sister tied up in her bedroom.

FINAL REVIEW 5/12/16: I finished it...I have never read a book like this before...mostly because I usually try to steer clear of stories that are guaranteed to give me nightmares for the rest of my life. But here I am, I couldn't leave this one alone, so many months not knowing, randomly thinking about what happens to Hillary, needing to know the gruesome details I thought I could live without....Angel Gelique has a true gift because nothing like that has ever happened to me before, typically if I am done with a story then I am just that DONE...but no, not this one, not Hillary...Honestly I would be more than eager to read anything she has written no matter the genre or subject matter because I can almost guarantee it would be brilliant...but I'm a pussy and I'm terrified to start another story like this and not be able to escape it once again.....seriously bitch made pussy and I am unashamed to admit it.
But regardless here I am and now I know exactly how Hillary ended up where she did in Tail of the Dog....At one point during this book I compared myself to a kid watching a horror movie with his hands over his eyes, peaking through his fingers because as badly as he wants to look away something is telling him he has to watch...that is exactly how this book made me feel, exactly why I couldn't walk away from it no matter how hard I tried....I both loved and hated this book so much...GOD THE FUCKING BABIES.....I literally tried to skip the whole scene with Joshy...I just can't even think about it any more...excuse me while I read something full of warm and fuzzies before having to inevitably jump into the final book in this fucked up trilogy....You're surprised I plan to read the next one?...you shouldn't be I don't care if cry like a bitch during the whole thing I have to know how this thing end!!

Fifteen-year-old Hillary Greyson awakens from a horrific nightmare only to discover that she faces an even grimmer reality. Naked on a bed in an unfamiliar, empty room, she is unable to move her limbs. Worse, she cannot remember who she is. Panic-stricken, Hillary desperately searches her mind for answers, but finds nothing more than fear and confusion.

A man enters the room—a stranger to Hillary. He introduces himself as Dr. Morrison. Seemingly benign, he informs Hillary that she is there for her own good…that she is under his care until she regains her memory. Hillary cannot remember anything, but her instincts warn her not to trust this man who claims to be her doctor. She can only hope that someone will come looking for her…that someone will find her before it is too late.

Several weeks later, Hillary’s situation has grown even more dismal. Still unclothed, coarse ropes bind her limbs to the bed while she is fed intravenously. Two new strangers have entered her life—Monica, Dr. Morrison’s wife, and Dr. Bentley, who claims to be her psychiatrist. Yet they are more evasive than forthcoming. Her questions remain unanswered. She is trapped, with no hope of escaping…left to piece together the mystery of her miserable existence.

Abused and neglected, Hillary knows that with each passing day, her chance of survival diminishes. She spends her long days wasting away, growing depressed…growing angry. When all hope seems lost, a cruel twist of fate provides the opportunity she has been waiting for.

With renewed hope and an unrelenting will to survive, Hillary does whatever it takes to escape. She yearns for her freedom more than anything in the world.

Hillary just wants to go home….

Review: This is one of the most ridiculously crazy horribly frightening and gruesome things I have ever read in my entire life...and I read a lot of ridiculous crazy shit on a fairly regular basis...but this book was absolutely horrifying!! There were parts where I had to look away from the text in front of my face, part where I felt sure I could take no more before I got sick to my stomach or had nightmares for weeks!! I will not try to explain the plot of this book at all for fear of spoilers ruining any of the awesomely twisted mystery that is Hillary and her fucked up story, other than the blurb given by the author I went into this story blind and I highly suggest any potential readers do the same... I will say that if you can't handle repulsive bloody gore and painstakingly nasty descriptions...don't try to read this it will be entirely too much for the causal phsyco/horror genre fan to handle...I almost stopped reading myself several times throughout the story..to be honest here at the end of book one part of me is left wondering what the hell I just read and if I dare pick up the next installment...but then there is another part screaming WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN YOU WON"T PICK UP THE NEXT INSTALLMENT!! and I'm resigned to my fate I simply must find out what grueling torture is in store for me next.

Trucker Jamie Schlosser

Title: Trucker (The Good Guys Book 1)

Author: Jamie Schlosser

Rating: ALL THE STARS!!

Author's Blurb:
Angel
I know what you're whispering in the car as you pass me by. Hitchhiker. When you see me walking along the side of the road with my thumb out you'll probably keep on driving without giving me a second glance. You probably think I'm foolish. Naïve. You might assume I've made some bad decisions. You might think I'm too young to be on m own. You might be right.
Travis
I love my job, but driving an eighteen wheeler comes with a certain stereotype. When you hear I'm a trucker, a specific image might come to mind. Uneducated. Dirty. Perverted. Rough around the edges and a little bit dangerous. But the truth, is I'm not any of those things. In fact, I'm pretty far from it. You'd be surprised to find out I'm one of the good guys.

Synopsis: Angel is on the run. After loosing everyone she ever loved and enduring months in the foster system she decides to take matters into her own hands. After all she's going to be aging out soon anyways and foster kids run away all the time, no one will even miss her. When she decides to hitchhike across the country to find her mom she's not really sure what to expect, but she certainly never dreamed she'd meet some one like Travis.
Travis is a long haul truck driver. He never really planned on it as a career choice but from the moment he set behind the wheel of his rig he knew it was the job for him. He never dreamed of picking up a hitchhiker but when he saw her walking down the side of the road he knew he couldn't leave her alone out there, he's too good a guy for that.

Review: This book exceeded all of my expectations. It was easy to read and captivating from beginning to end. I read this thing in one sitting because I just did not want to put it down. From the very beginning I was hooked by Angel and Travis' story. There was so much innocence and passion between these two, it was completely mesmerizing. Their story truly captured how wondrous first love can feel.
This story was also super HOT! I mean seriously steamy, yet in the sweetest most romantic ways. Travis makes being a nice guy sexy! I loved everything about him and the way he treated Angel from the instant you first meet him. And Angel, innocent, gullible, Angel, so sweet and pretty with a heart of gold and a potty mouth that could make you forget about it. I loved her so much.
I loved all of these characters, they were all so incredibly engaging. Angel and Travis were complex and deep and yet still young and fun, they made me laugh, and smile, and even blush right along with them but they also made me feel their pain and insecurities in the most appropriate ways. Even the ensemble cast was fun and interesting....I mean come on, a little old lady that drops the F bomb in casual conversation, what's not to like!
Quite simply, I loved this book, and I can't wait to read more from this author.

Collect Scars Tee Smith

Title: Collecting Scars

Author: Tee Smith

Rating: 4 Stars

Author's Blurb: Asha Harper doesn't believe in happily ever afters. She left home at seventeen to start a new life for herself, to follow her dreams of becoming a nurse.
For more than ten years she has not needed anyone in her life, well at least that's what she has told herself. Until she met the man with the gorgeous smile and piercing green eyes.
Xavier Arnold has had his own share of trouble in his life. He is still grieving for his younger sister Maddie, who has been missing without a trace for more than six years.
Will these two find love?
One night walking home from work, Asha is snatched off the street and held captive by a mysterious stranger. She is forced to re-evaluate her life. Not knowing if she will ever escape to see Xavier or her family again.

Synopsis: Asha and Xavier meet under pretty normal circumstances introduced by a mutual friend at an up and coming night club where Xave slings drinks on the weekends. Asha is resistant to enter into any relationship after the emotional trauma's of her past but there's something about this guy that gets under her skin. As their paths continue to cross she realizes they might have more in common than mutual attraction. Meanwhile she is being stalked by a creepy black van that seems to be following her home from work on a nearly nightly basis. Her friends and Xave are quick to dismiss her concerns but that doesn't stop the nightmares from coming. Then she goes missing without a trace...Will Xavier find her in time to save her from the same fate as his long ago lost little sister?

Review: This story wasn't what I expected. The plot builds beautifully but it's definitely a slow burn. Asha and Xavier's romance is sweet and relatable in a way that not many romance novels can capture. You truly learn about these characters as they learn about each other. With each new progression in their relationship you uncover a little more about them and their sorted histories.
Asha is a well rounded character that manages to keep her wits about her in the worst of situations, the few times she does behave uncharacteristically she is mindful that these reactions are out of her norm and she is flustered by the thought of the consequences the way anybody venturing outside of their comfort zone would be.
Xave is not an alpha male hero, he's really a pretty passive guy. And like Asha the few times he steps outside of those bounds he realizes that his reactions are a bit extreme.
Over all this was an interesting story filled with rich characters and a plot with a slow build that somehow didn't seem to drag at all. It is not a dark story, sure It ventures into some controversial themes, and has few moments that make you say "Oh Hell No" and "What The F***!". But Tee Smith has a way of telling it that makes it highly digestible. I'd recommend this book to readers with even the most sensitive of pallets. In fact the only complaint I can think of is that I wanted more. I wanted more of the gory details and explanations. I wanted to delve into the dark stuff and wade around in the evil a little bit...but I think that's just a personal preference because even without fulfilling my sick and twisted little curiosities, this story was captivating and enjoyable.

FrostBite Claire Marta

Title: Frostbite

Author: Claire Marta

Rating: 5 Stars

Author's Blurb: Jasmine Hunter is a rookie agent working for the covert Supernatural Department of Scotland Yard.
Being kidnapped with a co-worker is the last thing she’s expecting from only two months in a job she loves. She is even more unprepared for the sparks that fly between her and one of their captors, especially when her unique senses are screaming he isn’t human.
Eric is a vampire, deep undercover with centuries of secrets. He has no time for distractions, yet he can’t seem to get the feisty female out of his head, nor the hungering desires she evokes within him.
Forced to work together, they must stop the diabolical plans of Marcel Coupe – the French arms dealer responsible for her abduction. As time starts to run out can they save themselves and Paris from disaster? Or will the sizzling attraction between them be their downfall?

Review: It's been a long time since I enjoyed a vampire romance quite this much. Jasmine and Eric had an instant chemistry that left me wanting more of their interactions from the very beginning. The build up between those two was written so well, even knowing from the beginning that the hook up was bound to happen eventually I still found myself anticipating every moment thinking is this it?..is this where they finally give in?
On top of that the plot of the story was very compelling as well. More than once I found myself trying to guess the outcome of certain scenarios and trying to figure out the mysteries only to realize during the big reveals that I had overlooked some pretty compelling details and had not actually figured out anything at all.
I also loved the scenery of this novel. Being an American with no personal knowledge of Paris outside of pictures and drawings I feel like the author did a wonderful job setting that stage for me. Especially when it came to the set up for the epic showdown in the Effile Tower, I truly felt a connection to a real place that I have never once been anywhere near and that is impressive to say the least.
You can tell from the writing style that the author has a deep knowledge of her chosen genre, and as a long time fan of paranormal romance and urban fantasy I have to say she did a fantastic job of creating a world for her story to live in.
As an opening for a series this book was all around enjoyable and well planned and it has left me highly anticipating the next installment.
